Frequently Asked Questions
Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall of your current tyres and on the placard inside the driver's door. It reads as a series like 205/55R16, where 205 is the width in millimetres, 55 is the profile (the sidewall height as a percentage of the width), and R16 is the rim diameter in inches. Always fit the size specified for your vehicle.
In New Zealand the legal minimum tread depth is 1.5mm, but we recommend replacing before your tread reaches 3mm for safe wet-weather braking. You should also replace tyres that show cracking, bulges or uneven wear, or that are more than five to six years old regardless of remaining tread.
Replacing all four together gives the most consistent handling and grip, and it is strongly recommended for all-wheel-drive vehicles. If you are only replacing two, fit the new tyres to the rear axle for better wet-weather stability, and match the brand and tread pattern already on your car where possible.
We recommend rotating your tyres roughly every 10,000km to promote even wear and get the most life from them. Wheel balancing should be done whenever new tyres are fitted, and any time you feel a vibration through the steering wheel or seat.
A wheel alignment is strongly recommended whenever you fit new tyres. Correct alignment prevents premature and uneven tread wear, keeps your steering true, and improves fuel efficiency, protecting the investment you have just made in new tyres.
